Alabama Pharmacy Technician Requirements 2026

Every registered Alabama pharmacy technician must complete 6 hours of continuing education each two-year renewal cycle, and at least 2 of those hours must be live. Live means in person or a live virtual session. Pre-recorded courses do not count as live. Registrations expire December 31 of odd-numbered years. The current cycle ends December 31, 2027. This is Alabama Board of Pharmacy Rule 680-X-2-.37.

If you first registered in 2026, you owe 3 hours (at least 1 live) for the 2027 renewal. If you first register in 2027, you owe no CE for that first 2027 renewal. PTCB CPhT recertification is a separate national requirement of 20 hours every 2 years. It is not Alabama registration CE. There is no 5-hour annual Alabama technician CE rule. A CPhT who is registered in Alabama still owes the Board 6 hours and 2 live hours.

Maintaining Your Alabama Pharmacy Technician License

After you register, you must renew on the Board cycle and complete continuing education to stay in good standing with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy.

Registration Renewal Requirements

Alabama pharmacy technician registrations expire December 31 of odd-numbered years. The renewal window is October 1 through December 31. The Board renewal fee is $60. Confirm current fees on the Alabama Board of Pharmacy technician page.

Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

PTCB CPhT recertification (national, separate): PTCB asks CPhTs for 20 hours of national CE every 2 years. That is not Alabama registration CE. There is no 5-hour annual Alabama technician CE rule. If you are a CPhT and registered in Alabama, you still owe the Board 6 hours and 2 live hours.
