## Not sure which program fits you?

Answer two questions and we will point you in the right direction.

Question 1 of 2

How serious are you about building a long-term pharmacy career?

A

Very serious

I want to advance, get certified, and build a real career in healthcare.

B

I just need to get working

I want to get ALBOP-compliant and hired as fast as possible.

## What Alabama law actually requires

Alabama is not an optional-training state. Working as a pharmacy technician in Alabama requires completing a training program approved by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy. This is a legal requirement under Rule 680-X-2-.14 — not a suggestion, and not something an employer can waive.

Once you register as a pharmacy technician with ALBOP, you have six months to complete an approved training program. Miss that window and your registration can be suspended. Every pharmacy in Alabama — retail chain, independent, hospital, specialty — expects proof of completion before or shortly after hiring.

Rule 680-X-2-.14: New registrants have 6 months from the date of ALBOP registration to complete an approved training program. The clock starts at registration, not at hire.

## Your step-by-step roadmap

The process is straightforward. What slows people down is waiting to start. Enroll on day one, choose the right program for your situation, and the path is clear.

Your pharmacy tech roadmap

1

Step 1

Register with ALBOP

Create your account at the ALBOP Licensure Gateway and submit your pharmacy technician registration. Required before any approved training can begin.

2

Step 2

Choose your program and enroll

Enroll in Alabama Pharm Tech. The $199 ALBOP course is the fastest route to Board compliance. Complete Access at $249 adds extra math courses if you want more practice.

## Alabama Pharm Tech: $199 course or Complete Access

Two Alabama Pharm Tech options. Both include ALBOP-approved training. The right one depends on how much extra math practice you want.

The $199 course is the fastest path to ALBOP compliance. Most students finish in 2 to 4 weeks. Complete Access at $249 adds extra math courses if you want more practice after you meet the Board rule.

## PTCB certification — when you need it and when you do not

The PTCB exam is not required to work as a pharmacy technician in Alabama. Your ALBOP registration plus a completed approved training program is all the law requires. But whether certification matters depends entirely on where you want to work.

### When certification is effectively required

Hospital pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, and clinical settings across Alabama often prefer the CPhT credential for roles beyond entry-level. If those are your target employers, plan to sit for PTCB after you have work hours. Alabama Pharm Tech is ALBOP training, not PTCB exam prep.

### When you can pursue certification after you are working

Retail and independent pharmacy settings are more flexible. Many will hire technicians without national certification. If getting to work quickly is the priority, finish Alabama Pharm Tech, get hired, and sit for PTCB later if you want the CPhT credential.

The PTCB requires 500 hours of verified pharmacy practice experience in addition to a completed training program. Most Alabama technicians finish Board training first, then take the exam after they are working.
